About the Author

Born in Philadelphia, Caroline Kallas spent her early years in Montréal before making Los Angeles her home. She began her writing career as a student of journalism at USC and further pursued her interest in show business by working in film and television development. Since traveling has always been in her blood, she continues to explore the world whenever possible with her closest friends.

The author, Caroline Kallas, is a San Diego native and she is both very knowledgeable and passionate about her city. This gives the book a certain spark and energy that takes it to a higher level than the typical travel guide. It helps that San Diego is a lively city with great weather and many interesting places to explore. Of course, Kallas covers the famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World and the Gaslamp Quarter. But she also describes some of the city's lesser known attractions and neighborhoods in a way that makes them sound intriguing and worthy of a visit. Unfortunately, my wife and me have only a few days. But this book convinced me that we could vacation here for several weeks and never get bored.

Of course, Frommer's guides are primarily intended for people on at least a mid range budget. So those, such as backpackers, looking for information on youth hostels and other extra cheap options for eating and sleeping will probably want to get a Lonely Planet guide instead. But the majority of travellers will find this be an excellent choice.
